Petroleum is an oil-like substance that is mostly found in liquid form, can be found in various colors. Dense, easily flammable oil is a mixture of solid, liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons found naturally on earth. The word petroleum is derived from the Latin words petra and oleum. Oil, which is an important source of energy, is also the most important raw material of the chemical industry. Oil deposits in Turkey are not very rich. The existing oil deposits are mainly located in Adiyaman, Batman and Diyarbakir in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. There are also some oil deposits in Siirt, Şanlıurfa and Mardin.
