Shipyards

Shipyard is the name given to the facility where ships are built and repaired. The word shipyard has its origin from the Italian word shipyard. Its products can be yachts, merchant ships, industrial ships and warships. in 1327, the first shipyard was established in Karamursel and the first Ottoman ships were built. During the Republican Period, it was ensured that the technology and infrastructure deficiencies of the shipyards were eliminated and the necessary investments were made. In this context, the level at which submarines could be built in military shipyards was reached in 1935. in the 1960s, the technical deficiencies of the Public shipyards were corrected and boats carrying cargo and passengers were manufactured in the Golden Horn, Camialtı and Istinye Shipyards.
